Pharmacology and Translational Research Units
In the context of in vitro & ex-vivo drug evaluation, the Laboratory of Pharmacology at Democritus University of Thrace operates a Lab where In vitro & ex-vivo models for preclinical and clinical drug evaluation are utilised. These models combined with the modern bioinformatics techniques developed, can also provide services in drug repurposing. The lab is equipped for conducting research in the fields of Modern Pharmacology, with established techniques of molecular medicine, immunopharmacology and pharmacogenomics. It is orientated towards modern bioinformatics techniques for microbiome analysis and bioengineering. An interdisciplinary research team focuses on Inflammation, Fibrosis, Microbiome and Stem Cells, with expertise in: molecular biology; bioinformatic; culture models of primary cells, cell lines and Intestinal Organoids; In addition, the lab operates a Biobanking of human intestinal and lung myofibroblasts, and a large number of biological samples from the University Hospital of Alexandroupolis. The laboratory of Pharmacology offers advanced training for young scientists in translation research and in vitro & ex-vivo drug evaluation.
